Meditation for Treating Anxiety

By Gordon Dalwood

Anxiety is a condition of a most serious nature that must be dealt with by many people. With millions of people dealing with this problem there will not be a standard level of anxiety. There are many who have lower levels of anxiety but they are still bothersome. Other people have levels that keep them in a constant state of worrying about an attack. No matter what level the person has, treatment should be the way of dealing with these attacks.

The most common treatments for anxiety include prescription medication and therapy/counseling. However, there are those that profess a different, holistic approach to treating anxiety. This approach entails engaging in meditation therapy and it has been known to provide excellent results for even those that deal with incredibly high levels of anxiety.

Unfortunately, there tends to be somewhat of a misconception with regards to meditation therapy, in that many people see it as being slightly weird, believing that it has little value to offer in a real world. To the contrary though, meditation is renowned for its ability to help one relax and this in itself, is the very foundation of dealing with anxiety. It is the resulting calmness which helps to block out all the "mental noise" which people have to cope with when anxiety strikes.

This is a therapy that can be achieved while walking, moving or while sitting. The usual method is to clear the mind of everything. Taking away all thoughts of people, events and thoughts from your mind is the way this works. Meditation with a clear mind or by focusing on one thing are the two choices. A Zen Koan is one way of doing this.

This is a stylistic approach to a question that has no answer. A Zen Koan is used to develop the skills needed to search one's own intrinsic character. This may seem somewhat daunting but in actuality it is simple. By allowing the mind to calm down and remove much of the 'noise' that is consistently present the anxiety is allowed to fade away.

Familiarizing yourself with the basics of mediation is by no means difficult. In fact, the internet offers a wealth of free resources concerning the subject. By following their detailed tips you can at least gain a rudimentary understanding of what is needed to get the most out of a meditation therapy session.

Naturally there are some people who will be leery of meditating alone. Many people would rather be with other people to experience this. A solution to this is to sign up for yoga classes. The process of combining meditation with yoga will help to calm the mind and relieve the feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, and pain.

Furthermore, even when you are not participating in a yoga session, you should still continue practicing it at home as this will help you to get accustomed to meditating on your own in order to deal with anxiety attacks.

Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years. This alone is proof of it's effectiveness for releaving anxiety. You have nothing to lose so give it a try.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome -- Recovery Is Possible

By Russell Stubbs

Russell Stubbs - Lightning Process Advanced Practitioner gives an overview of the Lightning Process training programme.

Which health conditions can benefit from the Lightning Process?

I will refer to the condition of CFS - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the following article. However, the same principals apply equally to M.E. - Myalgic Encephomyalitis, F.M. - Fibromyalgia and P.V.F.S. - Post Viral fatigue Syndrome. The training is also relevant to other health conditions that benefit from a positive influence on the immune system.

What are the common triggers for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

There are many different ways in which people develop Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. For some sufferers the condition develops after contracting a bacterial infection or virus. For others the trigger can be due to a build up of stress or one specific stressful event. Some other triggers include operations, vaccinations, injuries, toxins, along with many more.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can persist for years.

Irrespective of how the condition starts, a common pathway appears to form. The condition then persists, sometimes for years or decades. During this time sufferers typically seek help from conventional and alternative medical practitioners. Many treatment approaches result in limited or short-term success and the search for a cure continues.

What influence does the stress response have?

All the latest research into CFS related conditions concludes a sustained stress response in sufferers. Some treatment approaches aim at alleviating the specific symptoms. Others attempt to teach sufferers strategies to manage their available energy. These approaches are missing a vital point. Until the activation of the stress response can be reduced and bought back into balance, long term recovery is unlikely.

What is the discovery part of the Lightning Process?

The Lightning Process is a training programme that takes part over three days. During day one, participants take part in a discovery process. This is to uncover the unconscious patterns that have formed that are driving the stress response. These patterns include behaviors, thought processes, expectations and beliefs. These were not responsible for causing the condition, but do play a key role in maintaining it.

Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome the only place where these patterns are found?

These patterns are common traits amongst most humans and are not unique to this condition. They become problematical when they are out of balance. This appears to be common in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. During the course we also consider the physiological consequences of the stress response when maintained over the long term. The Fight or Flight process, which evolved to protect our species, when consistently activated, can adversely affect most bodily systems.

How can we change these patterns using Lightning Process?

After learning that the mind and body have a powerful link between them, participants are shown how to use this connection to influence their own health in a positive way. The destructive patterns can be changed moment-to-moment through the use of specific body movements and certain targeted questions. When the process is used in a consistent way the cycle of ME/CFS can be collapsed rapidly and permanently.

How can we utilize neural plasticity using the Lightning Process?

The brain has the ability to adapt and change according to experience, this is called "neural plasticity". The Lightning Process becomes an effective tool for harnessing this brain function. With the right training and consistent application it is possible to literally re-form pathways in the brain. By uncovering damaging responses and then changing them from moment-to-moment this becomes an effective way of positively influencing health and well-being.

Is the Lightning Process something everyone can use?

Unfortunately the Lightning Process is not for everyone. It is not a treatment or therapy, it is a training programme and as such it is vital that the participant is ready and willing to make the necessary changes. It is also a requirement that the participant is committed to doing the work that can be challenging. The results can be quite remarkable for those people who are ready and committed. Every year thousands of people use the Lightning Process training to help turn their health and lives around.

Coping With Panic Attacks while Driving

By Gordon Dalwood

You might have never had any sort of difficulty while driving when suddenly something comes over you without warning. It becomes difficult to breathe, feel dizzy and you feel an overwhelming sense of dread. You begin to feel as though you may lose control of the car - and this intensifies the fear tenfold. If you've ever had this happen to you, you might be afraid to drive.

While some may tell you to overcome this fear by confronting it and driving more frequently, this only works if your panic attack was caused by a fear of driving. The best way to handle this is to learn how to deal with panic attacks while driving so that you can be better prepared and feel calmer while you drive.

The first time you have a panic attack while driving, you might not recognize the symptoms - increasing dread and fear, shakes and sweating. You may start to worry about hazardous road conditions, having a breakdown or getting stuck in traffic.

If you feel a panic attack coming on, pull over and stop driving - you won't drive safely in this state. Pull over, take deep breaths and wait until you relax.

Panic attacks can last a couple of seconds or for few minutes. Just try to relax and calm yourself until the attack subsides. If you have some water in the car, take sips of this, since dehydration can trigger panic attacks. Take a pill if you have any prescription medication for your panic disorder and ride your attack out until you're thoroughly relaxed. You should keep some water and a paper bag to regulate your breathing in the car at all times.

Preventing those attacks is better than a pound of cure. To avert panic attacks, take vitamin B complex as part of your preventive regimen. This vitamin family is recommended for people who are stressed out. Since Vitamin B complex is water soluble, there is no harm in taking the vitamins daily to supplement your diet but ask your doctor for the correct daily dosage for your age and gender.

Follow your doctor's advice. If you're going to a therapist or to group therapy sessions, make sure to attend consistently. Hearing how others have managed their panic attacks can be very helpful.

If you tend to have panic attacks while driving, you should always have someone else with you when you drive. If your panic attacks are especially severe or frequent, you may even want to have them drive instead. Simply having another person there can greatly reduce the anxiety which often leads to panic attacks.
